Happy Friday!

19 02 2010

I only have a few things other than wishing you a Happy Friday.  Am I the only one dreaming of spring?  This picture is from Sunset Magazine via myhomeideas.com and it’s got me longing for warmer weather.

There’s a really yummy looking recipe on Lime in the Coconut for Lime in the Coconut bars.  It looks so good, I wish I had time to make it.

We haven’t been doing much in the way of home updates this week.  However, in a few weeks we will be able to recommence working on the bathroom downstairs that has been a pain since we had plumbing troubles that ruined the bathroom floor.  We haven’t been able to use that bathroom since October, so it will be nice to have it back.

Have a good weekend!

Thank goodness for Friday!  I’ve got a bit of running around to do today and I feel like everything I do creates another two things to do, if you know what I mean.

This week I’ve really been working on a lot of ideas for the house and even though some of them are a ways off, I feel like it is really coming along.  There is one idea in particular – well I won’t spoil the surprise in case I can do it later, but I’m so excited about it and the change it would make in the house, I can barely hold it in!  On the work side, I’ve also been getting more of my photos edited, so I hope to have those out and at least on my flickr before Monday.

I’ve been getting back into posting here and it’s making me feel good.  I really want to ramp back up this year.  It’s feeling good to write again!

Have a good weekend!

Time for the weekend

11 12 2009

Time for the weekend again.  It’s been a strange week, both going too fast and feeling like it would never end.

Do you have plans for this weekend?  A project to work on?  This weekend I want to do a few holiday things, like looking at Christmas lights and listening to carols while I work.  2009 has been a hard year for a great many people and I just want to take a little time to be grateful this weekend, ya know?

Enjoy your weekend, no matter how you spend it!  See you on Monday.

Time for the weekend

4 12 2009

I wasn’t going to write a weekend post today.  Today I stayed in bed until it was unbearably late and then laid there some more.  I’ve been having trouble sleeping recently, so I’m not feeling lazy just resting.  It was so peaceful, I just considered not even opening my computer today.  But alas, reality kicked in!

This weekend for me isn’t all about projects on my house or anything like that.  I love December.  It’s one of my favorite months and I’m feeling cozy and happy in the house.  This week I’ve put a lot of work into the house and it’s starting to feel like I will be able to see the end product soon.  We’ll always have projects, but soon it will be more in the want category and not the need.

Oh, did you see over on the sidebar I put up the story of the Gingerbread House?!  I thought that would be a good reference if you visit infrequently.  I’m trying to put in little changes and add content to the blog, but it is hard since I am rarely in front of a computer these days for very often.  I usually get up and go work on the house or go into the kitchen to cook, there is always some project  even if it is project dinner!

Anyway have a good weekend.  I’ve got a  lot to report on Monday for our state of the house update!

20 11 2009

Well it’s that time again – time for the weekend.  I’ve got a special Saturday post planned – my house tour!  Make sure that you come visit tomorrow. Sorry it is so late in the week – I had two teeth extracted this week and it threw me a little off course. I’m getting better everyday and I’m getting back to house projects.

I’m especially excited about working on the outside of the house, we’re doing a bit of work outside before the winter sets in completely and it’s the first chance we’ve had to go outside. Hopefully next spring we can get out there early and start planning. I’ve got a lot of plans for the backyard that I didn’t get to put into action since the house called for so much attention this year.

Isn’t that room above from Elle Decor beautiful?  I love a room with bookshelves all around it.  Those big windows aren’t bad either!  What do you think they use those two trays for in front of the coffee table?  They have to go, they look in the way of the real furniture.

Anyway have a good weekend all and make sure you come back and take a looksie at our progress so far at the Gingerbread House!

Plym Vets Parade

Can I express my complete disbelief that it is already the middle of November? I feel like we were just gearing up for Halloween!

The time is flying by! This week in the US we had Veterans Day (Nov 11) and there was a parade in my town. I hadn’t expected a parade so it was exciting to be able to hear and see it from my house. The picture above is of the parade as seen from my window.  I am at the beginning of the parade route but there were people standing out to watch the parade go by.

I’ve been working steadily this past week, so I am going to have a lot of stuff to share with you on Monday. It’s been a pretty productive week here. I am glad for the weekend though so I can sit back and take stock of what has been done and what there is yet to do. I feel multiple trips to home improvement stores coming on.

Have a good weekend all! I am submitting this post to the Beautiful Life Party because my day was brightened by this parade for Veterans day and without the armed services and those who serve, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms we have to make our lives beautiful.

It’s a rest and recharge again for us at the Gingerbread House. I feel like we are settling in for a stretch of being complete homebodies, which suits me just fine. Our kitchen was made for cooking and the living room is the perfect place to watch movies or play wii.

I’d love to tell you that I have some grand plans for this weekend or even next week, but I’m just going to wing it. Since we had our trubbles, we’ve had carpenters and plumbers come to the house and it looks like we are in for some company. I don’t mind making changes in the house, but I anticipated being able to live in it a little longer before I needed to call a carpenter to come change things.

Since we do have some work to be done on the house, I”ve been thinking a lot about bathrooms and how uncomfortable some can be. Our downstairs bathroom has a big window behind the toilet and when we first moved in there was a full length mirror on the back of the door – that was directly in front of the toilet. Yes, that came down first. Anywho this beautiful lavatory is from House Beautiful, I love a nice vanity.  Have a good weekend yall!

Time for a trick or treat weekend

30 10 2009

It’s Halloween weekend! I really love this time of year, not only is it fall, which is my favorite season but I do enjoy Halloween quite a bit. This year I did get a costume but I am not sure I am going to get a chance to wear it.  This year let’s have a treat, because I think I am done with tricks!

Our trubbles with the plumbing are fixed for the time being, but we’ve got more trubbles than we counted on since our previous owner did his own plumbing and has connected copper to pvc to cast iron and it seems all of it needs to be replaced. Fun times.

Since we were having trubbles with the plumbing and couldn’t use the facilities, we jumped ship (in a rainstorm) and stayed in a hotel one night. Fortunately for us, this meant we got to watch Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin on TV.  In the midst of so many problems, it made me happy to see good old Charlie Brown.  I’m linking my Friday post to the Beautiful Life Party at the Inspired Room because it’s great to have working plumbing and Halloween goodness.

If you didn’t get to see the good old Great Pumpkin Caper  yet this year, here’s a clip and Happy Halloween!

PS.  Did you notice I put a Random Factoids section up?  I thought it would be fun to put some survey type info up about me.

Can I get a huge WOOHOO! for the weekend?!  Most of the time, I am just happy for the weekend but this weekend it’s so much more than that.  This weekend is the first time since we got the house that we are not either moving stuff to the house, ripping things out of the house, traveling or otherwise busy.  A lazy weekend!

Really it will be a lazy weekend for us.  I am not feeling like I have an all out cold/flu, but I am not feeling like myself, so I am inclined to rest this weekend especially since we have a new TV.  Ahh, the TV!  I was so excited for it, it was a small gift to ourselves bought with part of the security deposit we got back from the apartment.  Our old TV, which is still great and we got after Christmas on sale is now up in the bedroom and while it was too small for the living room, it’s the perfect size up here.

Next week (can you believe it will be Halloween?!) I am planning on getting back into my routine and continuing work on the house.  I’ve got some great pictures from Traditional Home magazine about kitchen storage, which is actually a project I have yet to tackle and have been thinking about.  The kitchen is the room that is next closest to being done with painting, but it feels worlds away from being done.  Anyway next week should be interesting – we have a lot of work to do before the weather gets too cold here.

Enjoy the inspiration pictures (I’m sharing them for Beautiful Life Friday) and have a good weekend y’all!

Time for a yellow weekend

16 10 2009

Normal people would choose a weekend to relax once they were done moving and traveling. Not us, we have a jam packed weekend and loads of plans and projects to tackle.

This past week has been slow with the house progress, but that’s an update for Monday. All I can say right now is that I am really in the mood for yellow. There is a yellow tree at the end of my street and I can see it from my front windows. It’s so bright and lovely, I’ve got yellow on the brain this weekend.

Here’s some great yellow inspiration pictures from House Beautiful. I think yellow looks ok with white, but great when paired with the right vibrant hue of pink, blue or red.  It’s what makes it so much fun, but not for the timid!  I’m sharing this with The Beautiful Life party at the Inspired Room.  Enjoy your weekend!
