This is one of the times in my life when I feel the most need to stop and smell the roses. My life has become a countdown of sorts lately, since there are two big events looming on the horizon for me. My wedding is the one I have been planning for the longest, indeed it has it’s own blog, but in less than two weeks we close on our house as well.
The house is our first home for both of us as buyers (read: grown ups). We’re both excited and a bit overwhelmed. There was so much to do, the websites, realtors and lawyers can’t prepare you for the offers, counter offers and waiting (in our case, mostly for our mortgage approval). It’s been worth it. Both James and I cannot wait to go to the yet to be named colonial by the beach that we bought.
The wedding is another entity. Weddings seem to take on their own life force. Recently my bridesmaid’s dress (just one maid- my sister) has come in and she says it fits perfectly, with the exception of the length, she’s just going to have it hemmed. The flowers have been ordered, the boutonnieres were made separately and ordered, and I’ve been making programs, menus and maps recently. It’s still very much a work in progress. This weekend I’m having a bachelorette party with my bridesman (read: gay male best friend), very low key and not traditional, we’re planning weekend of reading, beach going and antiquing on Cape Cod.
In between it all, we still do normal, everyday things. Our anniversary is coming up soon. We’re still giving gifts and celebrating. We have to go to work and the store, water the garden and all the little things. It seems like life would just do you a favor and slow down when you have so much going on, but that’s never the case.
Today is another beautiful day that I get to work. Well maybe it isn’t as sunny here in Boston as it was yesterday, but it’s very nice to wake up all the same and get to work on my projects.
The picture is from House Beautiful, one of my inspiration pictures for the colonial near the beach.
