James and I decided to buy a house when we were moving back to Massachusetts from Virginia. We looked around at that time, but we couldn't find the right house. Fast forward one year and we were not thrilled at the thought of renewing our lease so we redoubled our efforts to find our home.

In June we found a new realtor - and we went out with her right away. With six houses on our list, we only got to see four and the Gingerbread House was last. There was an open house that day but no one was there but the selling realtor! We adored the house, and everything seemed to fit, the price, the rooms, the neighborhood. We immediately put in an offer and after the counter offer dance, we closed in August 2009.

Since we've been here we've taken out the carpet in all but three rooms, taken out lino under the carpet, replaced the house trap and a corroded pipe that caused flooding in the first floor bath and ruined the new floor laid in there and had the ruined basement ceiling sheetrock removed, taken down wallpaper, painted every room except one, repainted the stairs and front door, repaired the upstairs toilet, installed a shower, laid new floor in the upstairs bathroom and downstairs landing, installed a doorbell, filled (and refilled) the oil tank, and started putting in a new master closet.

Along the way we got married and went on a honeymoon. We're still working on the house and yard. Hooray for spring!
