I’ve been loving pavers lately and I’ve found some lovely inspiration pictures.  There are so many projects you can do with stone around your yard.  I love the look of pavers and their many uses, driveways, patios, decks, retaining walls (beauty with a function is ever so devine), planters – the list goes on and on.

I love them around the pool!  I’ve never had a pool so I am not sure if that is slippery or not.

When we were searching for our home in Plymouth, Massachusetts, I ran across this stunning home built in 1650.  Called the Finney House, it is a beautiful piece of American History.  The home has been updated but still retains its original cape style.  The Finney House has 2100+ square feet of living space not including the basement – a rare find in houses this age!

70617448_P11The Finney House has one fireplace in an expansive living room and parlour area.  First floor updates include a modern kitchen with a dishwasher and a master suite with a full bath.  The lovely home retains 16 inch wide pine floors and exposed beams throughout.  The second floor of the home also has a full bath and two more bedrooms.

The home sits on 23,000+ square feet of professionally landscaped gardens and lawns on a corner lot.  There is parking for two cars and is within walking distance to the beautiful beaches of Plymouth.

Located right near the heart of modern Plymouth, this house is listed with a $299,000 price tag.  A bargain for such a lovely piece of history.  If you are interested in this lovely home, it’s listed on the MLS.  It would be a great find for antique home lovers.

Dutch Doors

•July 7, 2009 • 3 Comments

We’re had our home inspected (it’s in awesome shape considering it’s over 130 years old) and now it’s onto the fun part – decorating ideas!

Right off the kitchen (on the first floor) is a deck. For whatever reason, when the previous homeowners installed it they just put in a single door instead of the sliding double doors I usually think of leading out to a deck. But I am pleased because this gives me a chance to put in a Dutch Door.

I found the Dutch Door Store online as a resource for door buyers and some inspiration pics from House Beautiful.  A Dutch door will be a beautiful addition to the home because I think it will fit with the coastal feel the home has.  Right now our home to be is dark and dated and with some small projects and a few replacements we can make it feel updated and airy.

Martha Stewart’s Vodka Thyme Lemonade

•July 6, 2009 • 1 Comment

0703_msl_vodka_ade_detail_lI saw this recipe in a Martha Stewart magazine what feels like a million years ago and never made it until this weekend.  Summer is the perfect time for this refreshing drink and since lemonade is a favorite of mine, I couldn’t pass this up.  It was perfect for my Sunday afternoon of naps on the porch and ice cream.

Here’s the recipe and here’s the link. When I made it I used lemonade mix instead of 24 lemons though!

Ingredients

Serves 8

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 12 sprigs fresh thyme, plus more for garnish
  • 4 cups freshly squeezed lemon juice, about 24 lemons
  • 2 cups vodka

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 2 cups water with the sugar and thyme; bring to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally, until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat; let cool to room temperature.
  2. Pour mixture through a fine sieve into a large glass measuring cup; discard thyme. You should have 2 cups syrup. Cover with plastic; chill.
  3. In a large serving pitcher, stir together lemon juice, vodka, and chilled syrup; garnish with thyme. Divide evenly among eight tumblers filled with ice; serve immediately.

I’m going to make it short and sweet today. It’s a long weekend. Go out and celebrate Independence and have some BBQ. If you are in the rain and cold weather like me, get out your indoor grill and watch the pops on tv. Have a good weekend though and I will be back with a fresh post of goodness on Monday.

The September Issue

•July 1, 2009 • 2 Comments

I have been watching this trailer for the last few days since it came out, meaning to share it with you but forgetting because I have been travelling.

The September issue is about the giant issue of Vogue magazine and the making of it.  This is my kind of movie, it’s just the kind of thing I love.   I haven’t been this excited since Seamless came out.
